and Architecture...
I met Petar when I interned for his firm
about three years ago. Actually, I think he thought I was an architect
when he called me but when he found out I was a graphic designer he
said that was all right and I could still help out.
So, I did. And the first project I was put on was making shingles for
the model of Barbara Streisand’s house in Malibu. Petar was designing
another structure for the site but was putting together a model of the
whole property with the original house on it as well.
Anyway, he wouldn’t say this but I really was not that great at
model making. I mean his stuff is really precise. My shingles turned
out nicely though.
At the time Petar had a number of projects going on, mainly residential
but all pretty exciting. Not your run of the mill housing by any means.
In addition he has and had been collaborating with other artists and
designers on projects not limited to architecture. He is presently finishing
up the Bay to Park Link trolley stations with artist Ante Marinovich.
With architectural designs going up in Mexico, *Yugoslavia, the west
and east coast, Petar’s office is really busy and to add to the
mix he just moved into a new loft space with his building partner Ken
Miracle of Miraclebrand graphic design.
When I visited Petar last week the office was not exactly put together
yet but you could really sense the artistic quality of the space. Narrow
planked wood floors, skylights; their loft overlooks a computer design
firm below. They are also planning to continue having special event
art showings in the rectangular foyer space.
Petar and Ken started Flux Gallery a few years back and were very successful
at putting together exhibits that featured artwork of not only emerging
artists but architects and designers as well. Unfortunately the building
that housed Flux Gallery was sold and though their new gallery space
won’t be as large they will no doubt find a way to present art
in an original and creative way.
