Gallery Visit
Clark wanted me to come with him to Fren’s gallery as they start to plan out the exhibit he’s participating in.
There are three other artists who will also be showing, all from Chicago - a painter, a sculptor and an installation artist who is creating a room that is a fully spun spider’s web. When the viewer walks in, it gives them the feeling of being a bug caught within the silky threads. Fren said there’s a menacing soundtrack that will be playing along with it.
Innnn-teresting….
NYC?
It’s possible Fren, Clark and I may plan a trip to NYC. It’s always a great place to visit plus Fren, being a former New Yorker and still current art insider, can arrange some studio visits.
Of course, I love NYC most for the museums.
I remember the first time I went to the Met, my favorite gallery was the medieval arms and armor. I still love it. Clark is more about Roman and Greek art but I consider myself an amateur medievalist.
The pageantry, the heraldic colors and designs, the full display of the horses in their armor with banners hanging from the ceiling - magical!
My second favorite area are the Egyptian galleries and of course, the Temple of Dendur.
And let’s not forget, The Cloisters, the Met’s actual medieval museum in Upper Manhattan.
Book Recommendation
Speaking of which, I listened to an audio book on a trip last summer, it was titled The Cloisters, by Katy Hays.
It had to do with a set of ancient tarot cards and the researchers and curators at The Cloisters - and a mystery. I really enjoyed it - intriguing in the style of dark academia and for anyone who loves medieval art and/or tarot cards, it’s a great pick to read (or listen to).
More later on our NYC trip if we decide to go.
